After finding Meli and Liel, Haimanot's family demands case transfer to Shin Bet
Haimanot Kasau's parents are harshly criticizing the police following the successful operation to locate two missing persons: "Our Haimanot has not been with us for 902 days." The family claims discrimination in the handling of their daughter's disappearance and demands the case be transferred to the Shin Bet.
Following the discovery of Meli and Liel Yaalomi, who had been missing for days and were located alive and well, Haimanot Kasau's parents demanded on Saturday that the investigation into their daughter's disappearance be transferred to the Shin Bet. The family asserts that the police's success in locating the mother and daughter highlights what they define as helplessness in the investigation of Haimanot's case.
Benchi and Tesfia Kasau, Haimanot's parents, stated at the end of the Sabbath:
"With the end of the Sabbath, we received the happy news about the finding of Meli and Liel Yaalomi, alive and well. Once again a happy ending — only it is not our happy ending. Our Haimanot has not been with us for 902 days. 902 days have passed since our little daughter was kidnapped."
"Haimanot was 9 years old, she did not choose to disappear, she did not choose not to return home, and yet not everything possible was done to find her," the statement read. "The Israel Police, under the direction of Commissioner Dani Levy, activated all its capabilities to find Meli and Liel, but what did they do for our Haimanot? Lahav 433 investigated half the world to find them, and they don't even meet with us or update us properly."
Haimanot's parents reiterated their demand to transfer the investigation to the Shin Bet:
"We return and ask that the Israel Police transfer the investigation of Haimanot's kidnapping to the Shin Bet, that Commissioner Dani Levy and the head of Lahav 433, Major General Mani Benjamin, who failed to find a lead in the investigation, transfer the file to the Shin Bet because our girl is still not here."
"And to the dear people of Israel, whose citizens continue to show us the light within all the darkness, and we understand that many of them expressed, like us, their anger at the discrimination in the handling of the investigation into Haimanot's kidnapping, thank you," they added. "Thank you very much to you and please — be with us, help us raise a cry because, unfortunately, we are not being listened to."
