Apple Tests AI-Powered Conversation Recall and Summaries on Apple Watch
Apple is testing Live Rewind and Siri Recap in the watchOS 27.3 beta for Apple Watch Series 12 and Ultra 4, introducing ambient listening and automated conversation summaries.

Apple is testing two new artificial intelligence features, Live Rewind and Siri Recap, in the watchOS 27.3 developer beta. Designed for Apple Watch Series 12 and Ultra 4, these tools aim to help users recall missed conversation details or summarize entire discussions, while raising complex privacy questions.
Remembering the Last 15 Seconds
The Live Rewind feature is built for moments when a user misses a spoken detail. By double-pressing the digital crown on the Apple Watch, the user can instantly view a short transcript of the last 15 seconds of conversation. This allows individuals to catch a list of ingredients, instructions, or quick remarks without asking the speaker to repeat themselves.
Automated Conversation Summaries
Siri Recap goes a step further by actively listening for conversations throughout the day and generating concise summaries with headings and bullet points. Instead of trying to recall meeting decisions, users can open the Siri application on their iPhone to review the main takeaways.
Apple notes that these summaries are not full transcripts and may occasionally be incomplete or inaccurate. The temporary audio data required for Live Rewind is processed locally in a hardware-isolated Secure Exclave and is never saved as an audio file.
Privacy and Background Listening
Unlike standard manual recordings, Siri Recap can process background conversations once enabled by the user. Apple emphasizes that the features require explicit activation and allow custom scheduling, such as restricting operation to working hours.
However, privacy advocates point out that surrounding speakers may not realize their words are being transcribed and summarized. Although Apple attempts to filter out sensitive details like financial information, the company warns that automated filtering is not infallible.
While Live Rewind transcripts vanish roughly 30 seconds after the screen dims, Siri Recap summaries are stored for up to seven days unless manually deleted or exported. The tools currently require an iPhone 16 or newer with Apple Intelligence support, and an official release date for broader audiences has not yet been announced.
