Apple Unveils First Touchscreen MacBook Pro Powered by M5 Pro Chips
Apple has launched its first touchscreen laptop, the MacBook Pro with ProLED XDR Display, powered by M5 Pro and M5 Max chips with prices starting at $2,899.

Apple has unveiled its first laptop equipped with a touchscreen, the MacBook Pro with ProLED XDR Display. Powered by the company's M5 Pro or M5 Max chips, the new device features an advanced OLED screen offering higher brightness, enhanced colors, and wider viewing angles.
According to Apple, the new laptop is lighter than its current professional portable computers and continues to run the macOS operating system rather than an adapted version of iOS or iPadOS. Demonstrating the new functionality in a promotional video, users can be seen swiping directly on the display to interact with video and image editing tools. The iconic glowing Apple logo also makes a return on the laptop's lid.
Sales are scheduled to begin on November 6, with starting prices set at $2,899 for the 14-inch model and $3,399 for the 16-inch version, marking a significant price increase compared to existing lineup configurations.
This launch represents a major strategic pivot for the company, which spent decades resisting touchscreen integration in laptops while Windows-based competitors adopted the feature. "Yes, for the first time ever, we are bringing touch to the Mac," said John Ternus during a presentation before journalists and analysts in Los Angeles.
The release is the third major hardware rollout under Ternus's leadership, highlighting an accelerated hardware release cycle. It follows recent updates to the iMac and MacBook Pro lines featuring M6 processors, alongside an updated iPad Mini priced starting at $699.
