Israel's defense technology sector is experiencing an unprecedented surge in investor interest, driven by real-world operational demands following the outbreak of the war. Speaking at the Tech1 conference panel on the future of Israeli defense tech, industry leaders discussed the paradigm shift transforming military and civilian infrastructure protection.

Noam Friedman, co-founder of Airis Labs, which develops artificial intelligence technology for visual data analysis and real-time intelligence gathering, noted the dramatic reversal in market sentiment. While the company's seed round in 2023 faced skepticism and a challenging fundraising environment, Airis Labs now finds investors actively pursuing them. Operating stealthily after deploying systems directly into the field following the October 7 outbreak, the company recently emerged from stealth after securing a 60 million dollar funding round to support recruitment and expansion.

Amir Leibovitz, founder of Orca Innovation and a veteran of military and MAFAT command roles, emphasized that modern operational challenges demand rapid adaptation. Traditional development cycles are no longer viable in dynamic combat environments. Orca Innovation focuses on creating unified platforms that coordinate fleets of autonomous drones from various manufacturers, addressing the critical need to process complex battlefield data while redefining human-in-the-loop oversight.

Critical infrastructure has also become a frontline sector, according to Roy Avrahami, innovation manager at Ashdod Port. Facilities such as ports, gas terminals, and fuel stations now face direct threats, transforming them from passive consumers into active co-developers of advanced defense technologies. Ashdod Port is actively investing in startups through its corporate venture fund, providing a live operational testing ground for cutting-edge security solutions.

Looking ahead over the next five years, panelists agreed that autonomous systems, AI agents, and advanced data processing will redefine the defense industry. While technology will handle unprecedented volumes of information and execute complex tasks under fire, the ultimate key to success will remain the effective synergy between human judgment and machine intelligence.
