Amit Segal speaks out against 'Haaretz' correspondent: 'You have to be stupid and filled with hate'
A direct confrontation occurred on social media between Amit Segal and journalist Amir Tibon, following a report by Barak Ravid regarding a secret mediation channel with Iran. Amit Segal: 'You have to be stupid and filled with hate on the level of Amir Tibon'.

Amir Tibon, a correspondent for the 'Haaretz' newspaper and author of the book 'The Gates of Gaza', which focuses on the October 7 attack on Kibbutz Nahal Oz, addressed the dramatic report by journalist Barak Ravid last Sunday. According to the publication, in mid-May, the American negotiating team that was trying to reach an agreement with Iran and end the war encountered a problem.
According to the report, the Americans could not understand if the people sitting across from them at the negotiating table were speaking on behalf of the Revolutionary Guards. Therefore, senior officials in the Donald Trump administration bypassed the Iranian negotiating team and reached out to the leadership of the Revolutionary Guards.
The person chosen to serve as a secret channel was the President of the Kurdistan Region in Iraq, Nechirvan Barzani. At a certain point, the USA asked Barzani to hold secret talks in Erbil between senior American and Iranian officials.
Afterward, Barzani spoke with the Iranians again and conveyed the message. The Iranians did not reject the proposal but expressed concerns for their safety. Those individuals believed that Israeli intelligence had many sources in Iraqi Kurdistan and feared that the Israelis would try to eliminate them in Erbil or during their travel. Ultimately, the meeting in Erbil did not take place.
Tibon, who read Ravid's report carefully, wrote on the X network: 'So it turns out that Amit Segal's Kurds really did arrive in the end... to mediate between the Revolutionary Guards and the USA'. The post provoked the anger of Amit Segal, a political commentator and presenter on Channel 12.
In response, the veteran journalist wrote:
'How stupid and filled with hate can one be to attribute to a journalist at Channel 12 a plan that involved the Mossad, the CIA, the President of the USA, and the Prime Minister of Israel? Which was reported on Fox News, by Barak Ravid, Channel 12, and also 'Haaretz' of the aforementioned journalist? You have to be stupid and filled with hate on the level of Amir Tibon. Onward, stupidity and hate'.
