Adva Cohen qualified for the European Championship final in the 3,000m steeplechase

30-year-old Adva Cohen qualified this evening (Monday) for the 3,000-meter steeplechase final at the European Athletics Championships in Birmingham, following a particularly dramatic finish. Cohen, appearing in her fourth European Championship, managed to secure the eighth and final spot in the final only in the last meters, stopping the clock at 9:37.15 minutes. 16 athletes participated in the heat, and the top eight qualified for the next stage. For Cohen, this is another opportunity to repeat and even improve her achievement from the 2018 European Championships in Berlin, where she finished in fifth place.

Meanwhile, young Israeli talent Josh Harel, who will celebrate his 18th birthday next month, finished the World Junior Championships in Eugene, Oregon, with a result of 2.17 meters in the high jump — the best achievement for the Israeli delegation in the competition. Harel, who lives in Los Angeles, is the son of an Israeli father and a mother of Australian descent, and only recently decided to represent Israel. In the global stars sector, Norwegian Olympic champion Jakob Ingebrigtsen won the 5,000 meters after a fascinating battle, clocking 13:15.29 minutes and finishing ahead of Frenchman Robert Brama, who finished with 13:15.60. Ingebrigtsen, who withdrew from the 1,500-meter race due to injury, thereby cleared a spot in the list of Israeli participants for Matan Ivri.
