Ignored "Stop" and blocked the motorcycles: 75-year-old woman charged with causing the death by negligence of two IDF fighters
From the indictment filed against Helin Sahayk of Moledet, it appears that she entered an intersection without obeying a "Stop" sign and a stop line, and blocked the path of two Border Police fighters - Staff Sergeant Gal Yosef and Staff Sergeant Tomer Eliyahu Klifi. The two collided with her vehicle with great force and were killed on the spot.
The State Attorney's Office filed an indictment this morning (Wednesday) at the Traffic Court in Safed against Helin Sahayk, a 75-year-old resident of Moledet, for causing the death by negligence of two Border Police (Magav) fighters — Staff Sergeant Gal Yosef and Staff Sergeant Tomer Eliyahu Klifi (of blessed memory) — in a traffic accident on Highway 90. The fatal accident occurred on the morning of Saturday, August 16, 2025.
Staff Sergeant Klifi (24) and Staff Sergeant Yosef (23), two close friends who served in the Northern Border Police, were riding motorcycles and collided with the private vehicle driven by Sahayk near the Sde Eliezer junction in the Hula Valley. A Magen David Adom (MDA) team found them at the scene lying on the road at a great distance from the motorcycles in critical condition, and after examinations, was forced to pronounce their deaths. MDA paramedic Eden Gigi, who was present at the difficult scene at the time, said that both motorcycles caught fire, while the private vehicle sustained heavy damage to its front and its windshield was shattered.
According to the indictment, filed by Adv. Naama Gutman Zakai of the Northern District Attorney's Office, Sahayk was driving her vehicle with her partner as a passenger. The indictment states that despite a "Stop" sign placed at the location, and a stop line marked on the road, Sahayk entered the intersection, turned left, and blocked the path of the two motorcyclists. The two collided with her vehicle with great force, one after the other. As a result of the collision, they were killed on the spot. The passenger in Sahayk's vehicle was lightly injured, and heavy damage was caused to the vehicles and motorcycles.
The indictment charges Sahayk with two counts of causing death by negligent driving, reckless driving, causing damage to a person and property by negligence, and failure to obey a "Stop" sign.
Staff Sergeant Yosef (of blessed memory), 23, from Afula, served in the career army in the Border Police special forces and had married just three weeks before he was killed in the accident. He is survived by his wife, parents, and two sisters. Yosef was drafted into the Border Police and assigned as a fighter in the Judea and Samaria Border Police, from where he continued his career service in the Northern Border Police. During his service, he also served as a team commander of fighters and was described as someone who took on every task and every responsibility for the sake of his friends.
Staff Sergeant Tomer Eliyahu Klifi (of blessed memory), 24, from Kfar Baruch, is survived by his parents, three sisters, and a partner. Klifi was drafted into the Border Police and initially also served in the Judea and Samaria Border Police. Later, he moved with his friends to the unit in the north, where they served together in the same team for seven years. In the month before the accident, he took command of a team in the unit and served as a professional detective who excelled in every task.
