35 Dead, Including Women and Children, in Fatal Bus Collision in Syria
Two buses collided on the road between Deir ez-Zor and Palmyra, causing one to catch fire. 30 people were injured, including security personnel. Helicopters were dispatched for medical evacuation, and hospitals have been placed on high alert.
A fatal traffic accident occurred in eastern Syria on Saturday, leaving 35 people dead following a collision between two buses on the road between the cities of Deir ez-Zor and Palmyra. Emergency services arrived at the scene to treat dozens of victims.
The Syrian Ministry of Interior announced that the collision involved a civilian bus and a vehicle carrying internal security personnel. The ministry expressed its condolences to the families of the victims and wished a speedy recovery to the injured.
Footage from the scene shows one of the buses engulfed in flames. The passengers included families, women, and children. The head of the emergency directorate at the Syrian Ministry of Health confirmed that 35 fatalities and 30 injuries have been identified so far.
Syrian Minister Adnan al-Halabi told local media that authorities have instructed all university hospitals across the country to prepare for a large influx of casualties. Simultaneously, the Syrian Ministry of Defense reported that several helicopters were deployed to evacuate the injured and the deceased to the military hospital in Homs.
