Bilibili is relaunching its international app, removing the requirement to identify with a passport, and recruiting employees worldwide. The goal is clear: to bring in creators and viewers from the West - and enter an arena where YouTube is already facing increasing competition.

Starting August 24, a view on YouTube will be counted from the moment the video starts playing — similar to TikTok, Instagram, and Shorts. YouTube admits the change is expected to boost view counts, but emphasizes: creator earnings will not change.
