Knesset member Dan Illouz, who left Likud for Yisrael Beiteinu, stated that a significant portion of the Likud faction sought to replace Prime Minister Netanyahu after October 7, but failed to agree on a successor.

Knesset member Dan Illouz submitted his official resignation from the 25th Knesset to Speaker Amir Ohana on Tuesday. The move follows his departure from the Likud party to join Avigdor Lieberman's Yisrael Beiteinu. Per legal requirements, the resignation takes effect within 48 hours, with Shabtai Katesh expected to replace him.

Dan Illouz presented himself as a staunch right-winger and as someone who would guard Benjamin Netanyahu from the right, but gradually distanced himself from the Likud and the national camp. The votes against the coalition and the move to Yisrael Beiteinu completed the path that turned him into a "little Naftali Bennett."
