Zini says no: Gadi Eisenkot denied Shin Bet security as his staff alleges political motives

Shin Bet head David Zini has decided not to provide security detail to former Chief of Staff and 'Yashar!' party chairman Gadi Eisenkot. According to a report by Yaron Avraham on Channel 12 News this Saturday, this is a final decision that has been conveyed to Eisenkot’s staff following their repeated requests for protection.

The decision was made despite threats against Eisenkot on social media and warnings from the security establishment regarding attempts by Iran and other hostile actors to target senior Israeli officials. Zini’s office clarified that while a dedicated security detail would not be assigned, the service would provide a contact person and continue gathering intelligence regarding potential threats. However, the request for close protection was rejected.

Following the decision, Eisenkot’s headquarters sent a formal letter to the Shin Bet, the Israel Police, and the Attorney General, warning of the escalating threats and demanding a reversal of the decision.

"The atmosphere on the Israeli street and on social media is becoming increasingly heated. Threats are surfacing and multiplying," the letter stated. Eisenkot’s staff argued that his current private security is insufficient and that the physical threat against him is growing daily.

The headquarters placed the responsibility on the government and the Ministerial Committee on Shin Bet Affairs, claiming they are "not fulfilling their personal responsibility due to political and extraneous motives."

Eisenkot’s staff further suggested that the denial of state security is politically motivated, aimed at preventing the image of a Prime Ministerial candidate surrounded by security, which they claim could bolster his status. It should be noted that this is an assertion by Eisenkot’s staff and not an official justification provided by the Shin Bet.
