Amid ongoing uncertainty regarding the acquisition deal, Israeli shipping company ZIM has raised its annual financial outlook for 2026. The company, led since July by CEO Chen Lichtenstein, announced late Tuesday after Wall Street closed that it upgraded its full-year guidance driven by sustained strong demand and positive trends in freight rates.

Updated Financial Guidance for 2026

ZIM now projects an adjusted EBITDA between $2.7 billion and $3 billion, alongside an adjusted EBIT ranging from $1.4 billion to $1.7 billion. This marks a significant upward revision from the previous forecast issued in August, which estimated adjusted EBITDA at $2 billion to $2.4 billion and adjusted EBIT at $0.7 billion to $1.1 billion. The midpoint of the revised guidance reflects a 30% increase in EBITDA and a 72% surge in EBIT.

"The upward revision is a direct result of ongoing strong demand and favorable market trends in global shipping rates," the company stated.

Market Response and Acquisition Context

Following the announcement, ZIM's stock rose in after-hours trading in New York. The shipping line currently trades at a market capitalization of approximately $3.5 billion. The improved financial performance comes after a challenging first quarter in 2025 that included a net loss, followed by a strong recovery in the second quarter with $1.78 billion in revenue and a net profit of $64 million.

In February, ZIM announced an agreement to be acquired by Hapag-Lloyd and FIMI Opportunity Funds for approximately $4.2 billion. While shareholders have approved the transaction, it remains subject to regulatory approvals, notably from the State of Israel, which holds a golden share in the company. Discussions with state representatives are ongoing as the buyers prepare an improved framework.
