Zehava Shaul, who passed away at the age of 71 last Friday, led a decade-long struggle to bring her son home for burial in Israel. She will be laid to rest beside her husband, Herzl, and her son Oron, whose body was recovered from the Gaza Strip in January 2025.

Zehava Shaul, mother of Staff Sergeant Oron Shaul, is being laid to rest today, Sunday, at the cemetery in Poria Illit. Shaul, who passed away at the age of 71 last Friday, led a prolonged struggle for over a decade to bring her son to burial in Israel. She will be buried next to the graves of her husband, Herzl, and her son Oron.
In January 2025, in a special covert operation by Shayetet 13, Aman units, the 162nd Division, and Shin Bet forces, the body of soldier Oron Shaul, a fighter in the 13th Battalion of the Golani Brigade who was killed in Operation Protective Edge in 2014, was recovered. Efforts to bring him back, including the collection of intelligence, continued throughout the last decade and with greater intensity during the war.
