Yoram Cohen: "There are cracks in Zini's decisions, security for the Netanyahu family is a far-reaching step"
In an interview with 103FM radio, former Shin Bet head Yoram Cohen stated that there are "cracks" in the decisions made by current Shin Bet chief David Zini. Cohen also addressed the October 7 failure, arguing that an investigation is essential to identify what went wrong and prevent future occurrences.
Yoram Cohen, former head of the Shin Bet and a candidate on the "Yashar!" party list for the Knesset, appeared on 103FM radio this Monday to share his views on Israel's political situation, the commission of inquiry into the October 7 failure, and to offer advice to current Shin Bet head David Zini.
Regarding the October 7 failure, Cohen stated: "One must investigate first of all to check what did not work, and secondly to determine what must be done so that this does not happen again."
He later expressed his opinion on David Zini: "I think Zini needs to appreciate what he did in the army as a Major General, but the service is a different body—civilian, with many powers—operating in the Palestinian arena and within the State of Israel. He must maintain the principle of statehood and non-partisanship, even if the Prime Minister asks him to do illegal things."
He further emphasized regarding Zini's performance: "In my opinion, there are cracks in some of his decisions that I hope he will manage to stop. One is his statements. Two is issues like security. I don't think it is irreversible. I believe that security for the Netanyahu family is a far-reaching step; there is a difference between the Prime Minister and his family members."
