Yona Elian and Sassi Keshet on the Situation: 'It's a Terrible Feeling, I Cry All Day'

Alongside celebrating 53 years of marriage and marking a quarter-century of their joint show, "Nostalgia is not what it used to be," the couple Yona Elian and Sassi Keshet reveal the deep emotional gap between them regarding how they cope with the complex period the country is going through.
During an interview with "Israel Hayom," Elian shared candidly about the pain that has been overwhelming her in her daily life recently:
"It is a horrific period. I feel helplessness, a lot of anger, sorrow, and pain, a terrible feeling. I am not one of those who say I will leave here, I will never leave, this is my place and here are my roots - but I cry and ache over it all day."
While Elian follows the news religiously and carries the pain continuously, her husband Sassi Keshet presents a completely different way of coping and admits that he prefers to avoid watching reports.
"I close off some barrier within me that might burst one day," Keshet explained. "However, I can cry and still see beyond the black horizon. I believe it will be good, because we have an amazing people."
This coping mechanism joins the way the two have developed self-deprecating humor over the years regarding their couple image:
"For years we tried to avoid the schmaltz and the excessive sweetness," Elian said. "We would say we have bottles with magic potions, or that we want to get divorced but we feel awkward because the country will fall apart. But now I don't mind saying that this is a rare love, and I am still very much in love with him."
