Ynon Kreiz, the outgoing CEO of Mattel, is expected to join the senior leadership of the newly merged media giant formed by Paramount and Warner Bros. Discovery, according to reports from The Hollywood Reporter and Variety. Kreiz, who is stepping down after eight years at the helm of the toy manufacturer, is reportedly set to join David Ellison's Paramount as the $111 billion mega-merger nears final completion.

Career Background and Industry Experience

Kreiz is no stranger to the entertainment industry and has previously managed assets that will soon fall under the newly combined company. He served as chairman and CEO of Maker Studios, a YouTube-focused digital content network acquired by Disney in 2014, before leaving in 2016 to join Mattel in 2018. Prior to that, from 2008 to 2011, he led the Endemol Group as chairman and CEO and was a general partner at Balderton Capital.

"David Ellison has been courting Kreiz for months, calling the potential appointment another ace up Ellison's sleeve," according to sources familiar with the matter cited by Variety.

During his tenure at Mattel, Kreiz successfully expanded the company's market share in core toy categories and spearheaded its strategic push into entertainment. Most notably, this transition yielded the blockbuster film "Barbie," starring Margot Robbie, which became the highest-grossing film worldwide in 2023 and the most lucrative movie in Warner Bros. Pictures history.

Paramount is currently awaiting the final judicial approval of a consent decree to conclude the massive $111 billion transaction.
