WhatsApp has rolled out a major update introducing retroactive chat history sharing for all group members, permanent message pinning, and a new mentions filter to streamline user communication.

Under the new feature, group members are no longer required to rely solely on administrators to bring newcomers up to speed. Previously, sharing chat history was restricted to admins who could manually select to share the last 25, 50, 75, or 100 messages upon activation in settings. Now, any member can selectively share prior message history with newly added participants.

WhatsApp emphasized that sharing historical messages does not compromise security. All transferred messages remain protected by end-to-end encryption, ensuring they are not exposed to third parties or Meta Platforms.

Permanent Pinned Messages and New Filters

The update also brings two additional features designed to improve group organization. Users can now pin messages to the top of a chat indefinitely, removing previous time limits that restricted pins to one day, a week, or a maximum of 30 days.

Additionally, WhatsApp introduced a new filter named Mentions and Replies. Similar to existing unread chat filters, this tool displays only the groups where users have been tagged or where replies to their messages have been posted, eliminating unnecessary scrolling.
