Golden State Warriors are reportedly eyeing a blockbuster move for Denver Nuggets superstar Nikola Jokic as part of their long-term planning for the summer of 2027, according to NBA insider Jake Fischer.

Speaking on SiriusXM NBA Radio, Fischer noted that the Warriors are monitoring the situation closely. "The Warriors are one of the teams looking around, rubbing their hands together and asking themselves: 'Are we sure Nikola Jokic won't be available next summer?'" Fischer said. Golden State believes its organizational appeal and the presence of Stephen Curry make it a prime destination.

Cap Flexibility and Curry's Role

Financial projections suggest the Warriors could clear between $64 million and $66.8 million in salary cap space. This flexibility is partly due to Stephen Curry's contract restructuring. The 38-year-old guard previously signed a two-year extension worth $116 million, voluntarily leaving roughly $20 million on the table to provide management with the financial leeway needed to surround him with elite talent.

While previous pursuits of stars like Giannis Antetokounmpo and Kevin Durant did not materialize, Golden State remains confident. Team executives point to past successes in attracting high-profile talent and believe they remain well-positioned for future marquee acquisitions via trades or free agency.

Jokic's Contract Status

Nikola Jokic holds a player option worth approximately $62.8 million for the 2027-28 season. If the three-time NBA MVP declines the option, he could test free agency. Despite outside speculation, Jokic has consistently expressed a desire to remain with the Nuggets.

"My plan is to sign next summer and stay in Denver until the end of my career," Jokic stated in July. Waiting until 2027 could also allow the Serbian center to sign a five-year extension worth around $350 million.

Alongside Jokic, other prominent names such as Giannis Antetokounmpo, Anthony Davis, and Karl-Anthony Towns are being monitored across the league as potential high-profile targets for upcoming offseasons.
