Flight of love: passengers wrote marriage advice to a bride on napkins
A young American woman on her way to her bachelorette party received a surprise from the Southwest crew, who recruited the married couples on board to share their experience ahead of the wedding.
Maya Lorimer, an American fashion and lifestyle content creator with over 80,000 followers on TikTok, was on her way to her bachelorette party on a Southwest flight when the crew discovered she was getting married and decided to surprise her.
The flight attendants handed out napkins and pens to the married couples on the plane and asked them to write one piece of advice for married life. By the end of the flight, a pile of tips, blessings, and recommendations awaited Lorimer — and the video documenting the gesture has already garnered over 315,000 views.
According to the New York Post, Lorimer is set to marry her partner, Donovan Haikop, on September 20 in La Jolla, California. The article included some of the advice she received during the flight. One of the most prominent came from a mother of two, who wrote to Lorimer to take advantage of the time before having children — if they choose to do so — and to enjoy the spontaneity, the adventures, and the ability to wake up in the morning whenever they want. She added that her favorite version of her husband is actually the "dad" version.
Other tips were shorter and more direct: talk about everything, "communicate even too much," and schedule a date night once a month — forever.
The reactions on TikTok were quick to arrive. Users asked Lorimer to share more of the napkins she received, one commenter wrote that she is a flight attendant herself and was inspired to do something similar, and another called on her to "frame them immediately." Southwest also joined the celebration and wrote in response to the video: "We were happy to celebrate with you on the plane. Congratulations."
