The United States Navy and Central Command forces, under the leadership of Admiral Brad Cooper, have successfully reversed the tide in the campaign over the Strait of Hormuz, according to a recent editorial in the Wall Street Journal. US pressure has effectively restored safe passage for international shipping, while strictly intercepting and halting the oil exports of the Iranian regime.

Impact on Global Markets

Data from the ship-tracking firm Kpler indicates that the weekly average of oil passing through the strait currently stands at 14.19 million barrels per day, nearing the pre-war volume of 17.13 million barrels. The primary deficit in the global market stems directly from halted Iranian crude.

"We control the Strait of Hormuz," noted Richard Goldberg from the Foundation for Defense of Democracies, emphasizing that the maritime data reported by US Energy Secretary Chris Wright reflects precise counts from vessel captains.

Growing Economic Isolation

US Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent estimates that Iran will deliver its final oil shipment to China by mid-October. Alongside this, Washington has intensified pressure on Tehran's trading partners:

  • The United Arab Emirates has severed commercial ties with Tehran.

  • Turkey has initiated the closure of Iranian banks.

  • Regional airspace is progressively shutting down to flights originating from Iran.

The economic fallout inside Iran has been severe. The Iranian rial plummeted to a historic low this week, crossing 2.5 million rials per dollar, marking a staggering 140 percent collapse on an annualized basis since the onset of the US blockade.

Ongoing Security Challenges

Despite the tightening noose, the Wall Street Journal warns that Tehran remains defiant. The United Kingdom Maritime Trade Operations reported three separate attacks attributed to Iranian forces, signaling that the regime may seek disruptive actions as its primary revenue streams dry up.
