Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu's aide Jonatan Urich used ChatGPT in September 2024 to find ways to improve Qatar's image, sparking harsh opposition backlash.
Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu's aide, Jonatan Urich, consulted ChatGPT in September 2024 for strategies to improve Qatar's public image, according to an investigative report aired by Channel 12. Investigators confronted Urich with chat logs showing queries aimed at whitening Qatar's reputation for target audiences including Israeli citizens, Jewish communities abroad, and US opinion leaders.
Interrogation Details and Response
During questioning, Urich was presented with transcripts where he asked the AI for key messaging to bolster the emirate's image. Confronted by investigators, Urich stated: "I do not remember what I asked the chat. I ask it about many topics." Opposition leaders strongly condemned the reports, pointing to the sensitivity of the Prime Minister's Office.
Political Backlash
Yashar! party leader Gadi Eisenkot harshly criticized the Prime Minister, stating that a Qatari agent operated within the sensitive bureau during wartime. Yisrael Beytenu leader Avigdor Lieberman called for the removal of the current government in the upcoming October 27, 2026 elections and demanded a state commission of inquiry.
"In the Prime Minister's Office, a Qatari agent operated and still operates, carrying out psychological terror against Israeli citizens while our soldiers risk their lives," Eisenkot stated.
