Consul General in New York Ofir Akunis called for a broad national unity government during an event in the Hamptons, urging an end to political boycotts.
Consul General of Israel in New York Ofir Akunis called for a broad national unity government during a meeting with members of the Jewish community in the Hamptons. Akunis stressed that showing unity to the world is the most critical necessity amid current challenges.
"This is the most important thing at this time, to show the world that we are united," the consul emphasized, noting that internal unity serves as a vital message to Jews abroad and to the global community, especially amid surging antisemitism. He also criticized the political boycott culture in Israel, urging leaders across the political spectrum to abandon it.
The event in the Hamptons, organized by Rabbi Marc Schneier, included a screening of the film "Safe Room" by director Hayley Geffen. The screening served as a counter-response to the screening of a controversial propaganda film at the Hamptons Film Festival.
