A United Airlines flight from Ben Gurion Airport to Newark was forced to turn back shortly after takeoff due to a medical emergency on board, leading to the cancellation of the flight.

Flight UA91, operated by a Boeing 787 Dreamliner carrying 272 passengers and 13 crew members, departed from Ben Gurion Airport late Saturday evening. Shortly after takeoff, while climbing over the Mediterranean Sea, the crew reported that a passenger had fallen seriously ill and required urgent medical attention.

The captain decided to abort the transatlantic journey and return to Tel Aviv to meet emergency medical teams waiting on the ground. Following landing and the evacuation of the passenger, the airline canceled the original flight due to crew duty time limitations.

United Airlines stated that the flight returned safely to Ben Gurion Airport to address a passenger's medical issue and that passengers were rescheduled on a special alternative flight destined for Newark on Sunday.

Recent weeks have seen similar medical diversions involving Israeli carriers, including an Arkia flight returning to Israel from New York and an El Al flight making an unscheduled emergency landing in Paris after a crew member fell ill.
