"A word is a word": Einav Zangauker reveals the agreement with Yair Golan that did not materialize

Einav Zangauker announced today, Monday, that she will not run in the Knesset elections, after claiming that the chairman of The Democrats, Yair Golan, reneged on an agreement to reserve a spot for her at the top of the list. As early as February, Golan offered her a spot immediately after the incumbent Knesset members, and she accepted the offer, refraining from examining other political options. Zangauker clarified that despite this development, she intends to continue her public activity for the "repair of the state," but not within the framework of the Knesset.

In her full statement, Zangauker wrote:

"I have been flooded in recent days with messages of support and also with many questions. We have an amazing people, thanks to whom all the living hostages and the fallen were returned home. This is the people for whom I intend to act in the coming years, to act to repair what is so broken here. Unfortunately, this will not happen from the Knesset, it will happen in my own way."

She continued:

"You deserve answers, and I choose to tell here what happened. Already in February, when reports began about the expected dissolution of the Knesset, I met, at his request, with Yair Golan. In that meeting, I was offered a reserved spot at the top of the list immediately after the incumbent Knesset members. After deliberations, I replied in the affirmative to Yair, and the spot was agreed upon between us."

Zangauker stated that she was asked to keep the agreement secret, and that the commitment was ratified several times by Golan himself. "Each time it was emphasized to me that a word is a word, that the agreement between us is valid. I was asked to keep a low media profile until the announcement. I stood by my commitment, kept the confidentiality, and did not examine other options, such as participating in the primaries. Unfortunately, Golan decided otherwise. This event is over and it is already behind me."

She concluded: "I promised and I will fulfill: I intend to repay my huge debt to the people of Israel. In the weeks remaining until the elections, we must ensure that the government of failure does not succeed in its plot to hide and make people forget the massacre, the abandonment, and the absolute failure it is signed on in all fronts! Together we will rebuild here a state where the right order is restored: equality in rights, duties, and opportunities. I will continue to sound a clear and lucid voice for the repair of the state. I need all of you with me."
