Ashkelon Raid Uncovers Gambling Den Linked to Senior Criminal Figure

Police suspect that an illegal gambling house uncovered in Ashkelon is operated by a senior figure in the criminal underworld of the south, it was learned today (Tuesday) by Walla. The criminal in question was not arrested during the operation, as he was not present at the scene during the raid, but police suspect he is the one behind the management and operation of the business.

During a proactive operation by detectives from the Ashkelon station, in cooperation with soldiers from the Southern Border Police (Magav), a search was carried out in a building in the city following information pointing to the operation of an illegal gambling site. Upon the forces' entry, several suspects were located who were allegedly participating in gambling games.

During the search, a computer used for bingo, bingo cards, cash, coins, checks, and other equipment were seized. Police estimate that the findings strengthen the suspicion that the house was operating in violation of the law.

As part of the activity, the operator of the place, the tenant, and two other participants were detained for questioning. All those involved were transferred to the police station for further processing, while the investigation continues with the goal of establishing the case against the person suspected of being behind the operation.

Deputy Commander of the Ashkelon station, Chief Inspector Doron Sasson, stated:

"The Ashkelon station acts decisively and consistently against the phenomenon of illegal gambling, which constitutes a fertile ground for criminal activity and harms public order. We will continue to carry out proactive and focused activity, to locate centers operating against the law, and to act against those involved, with the goal of maintaining public safety and quality of life."
