Later, Dillon addressed the incident on the TODAY show, where she said that she had slept only a few hours the night before the broadcast. According to her, her eight-month-old daughter had trouble falling asleep and suffered from teething pain, while her husband was working a double shift.
"I have a two-year-old girl and an eight-month-old baby. I tried to put them to sleep, but my little one just wouldn't have it," she said.
According to her, time passed quickly, and by the time she was able to get some rest, it was already late at night, leaving her only a few hours before she had to get up for work.
Dillon even revealed that she was not aware at all that she had fallen asleep. "My meteorologist whispered my name across the room," she said. According to her, even the control room staff did not realize she had fallen asleep, because they thought she was looking down at a tablet.
When she realized what had happened, she said, she was very embarrassed. "I opened my eyes and the camera cut to the next shot. I thought to myself, I can't believe this happened to me. I am so embarrassed," she said.
