Terrorist threatened to murder MK Zvi Sukkot; security detail increased

The Israel Police have arrested a 25-year-old resident of East Jerusalem on suspicion of threatening to murder the Chairman of the Education Committee, MK Zvi Sukkot. According to the investigation, the suspect sent threatening messages to Sukkot via social media, which included pictures of weapons and ammunition alongside an explicit threat to his life.

According to the allegations, the suspect, Tarzan Hamad, wrote to Sukkot: "I always have a weapon, I travel without security checks, I will kill you when I see you." Following the receipt of these threats, the police launched a rapid investigation, took testimony from the Knesset member, and arrested the suspect for questioning.

Following the incident, the Knesset and the Israel Police conducted a situational assessment, resulting in the decision to raise the threat level for MK Sukkot to level 4, accompanied by a significant reinforcement of his security detail and tighter security arrangements. According to Sukkot's office, the threats were issued following a series of tours he conducted in schools in the Arab sector as part of his parliamentary activity and his ongoing fight against protection rackets.

MK Zvi Sukkot praised the police's response and stated:

"I thank the Israel Police for their swift action and for the arrest of the suspect. These threats will not deter me and will not prevent me from continuing to carry out my public mission. The violence, crime, and illegal weapon stockpiles in the Arab sector are a grave threat to the security of Israel's citizens, and I will continue to act against them with all my might. Whoever thinks that threats will silence me is mistaken."
