A legal and security drama unfolded in the West Bank during the Sabbath when an IDF soldier, serving in a special forces unit and residing on a local farm, was arrested by police after coming to the aid of a Jewish shepherd brutally attacked by dozens of rioters.
The incident began half an hour before the start of the Sabbath. A shepherd grazing his flock near the Alon Road was attacked by rioters from the village of Al-Mughayyir. The attackers threw stones at close range and fired fireworks directly at him, posing an immediate threat to his life. The shepherd called for help, and the soldier, who was on leave at a nearby farm, immediately arrived to ensure his safety.
According to the soldier's account, he assessed the situation and exercised restraint, choosing to wait for arriving IDF forces without opening fire. Upon the arrival of the military, the rioters were dispersed using riot control measures, and the shepherd returned safely to his farm.
However, on the night of the Sabbath, Arab elements in Al-Mughayyir launched a campaign of misinformation, claiming an Arab child was wounded by gunfire. Channels linked to Hamas propaganda targeted the soldier, circulating an old photograph and blaming him for the incident.
Despite the lack of evidence, the police arrested the soldier. His associates expressed deep resentment that the law enforcement system was being influenced by enemy propaganda:
"It is impossible that a soldier who goes out to protect citizens against dozens of rioters finds himself under arrest due to fake news from Hamas. We are sure that the truth will be clarified in the coming hours."
