As part of a report broadcast on Channel 12 under the title 'How much does it cost to grow old in Israel?', Yossi, a pensioner in his 70s, presented the difficult and troubling economic situation that he and many Israelis are forced to deal with month after month.
The data revealed an astronomical total monthly expense amount reaching 19,650 shekels, which makes it significantly difficult for him to support himself with dignity.
Most of Yossi's monthly budget is directed to protected housing, which stands at a sum of 12,000 shekels per month. To this are added 2,000 shekels intended for medicines and physiotherapy treatments, alongside an identical sum of 2,000 shekels defined as additional expenses.
In addition, Yossi spends about 1,650 shekels every month on food and 1,500 shekels for the maintenance of his private car. The chain of monthly payments is completed by current bills: 250 shekels for municipal tax (arnona), 150 shekels for electricity and 100 shekels for water.
During the television interview, Yossi shared the difficult feelings and distress that accompany him in the face of the high costs, and admitted that he relies on the help of his family: 'I cannot cope with this, my daughter worries, helps me with food containers,' he said with visible pain and added: 'It is a shame, it is not pleasant, one must save on expenses.'
