An unusual and terrifying incident occurred this week in the resort town of Malia on the Greek island of Crete, which initially appeared to be an attack with an antisemitic background. According to reports, a group of people armed with rifles and axes broke into a hotel housing dozens of tourists from Israel and began a targeted hunt between the floors and rooms in search of Israeli and Jewish citizens.
Media personality and Reshet 13 presenter Amit Kotler spoke today (Monday) with Aryeh Eldad and Amichai Attali on 103fm radio and provided new details about the violent brawl in Crete.
"Apparently, the story of what happened inside the hotel never happened. The incident took place outside the hotel. It was a brawl between Israelis and non-Israelis," Kotler stated.
"From the testimonies of the Israelis, we know that they were singing songs in Hebrew outside the hotel, — Kotler continued. — Of course, there is nothing wrong with that, but it caused an escalation there. What happened was a brawl that developed into a much bigger story."
"The police arrived and arrested two Israelis who were not among those staying at the hotel, — he added. — They were their friends, people who were not connected to the story, but intervened. Those two were arrested on suspicion of possessing cold weapons."
According to him, the matters are currently being investigated in court, and everything said in the news is far from reality:
"What we heard yesterday in the headlines about 'antisemitism', 'they hate us', or 'they don't want us' — these things never happened."
