An unusual incident occurred this Monday evening at a parlor meeting held by former Shin Bet chief Yoram Cohen in Jerusalem, as part of his political activity alongside Gadi Eisenkot.
During the meeting, one of the participants repeatedly interrupted Cohen, accusing him that during his tenure as Shin Bet chief, exceptional interrogation methods were approved against Jewish detainees. Referring to the case of Amiram Ben Uliel, who was convicted of murdering members of the Dawabsheh family in the village of Duma, the participant claimed that Cohen "legitimized torture" during the investigation.
According to video documentation from the scene, the exchange led to a loud confrontation between the participant and other attendees in the hall, which nearly escalated into a physical altercation. Cohen himself did not intervene, waited until he could continue his remarks, and proceeded with the meeting.
The investigation of Ben Uliel continues to spark controversy among right-wing activists, who claim that improper interrogation methods were used against him. Conversely, the security establishment has maintained over the years that the investigation was conducted in accordance with the legal authorizations granted at the time.
