Officer moderately wounded in encounter with terrorists in southern Lebanon
Amid ceasefire violations by Hezbollah and the Israeli response involving the destruction of tunnels at Beaufort, the IDF announced that an officer was wounded during "operational activity". The soldier's family has been notified.
The IDF Spokesperson announced this Saturday afternoon that an officer was moderately wounded last night during what was described as "operational activity" in southern Lebanon. The incident involved an encounter with terrorists, though the IDF did not provide specific details regarding the location or circumstances. The soldier was evacuated to a hospital for medical treatment, and his family has been notified.
The incident occurs against a backdrop of rising tensions with Hezbollah, which violated the ceasefire this week by launching an explosive drone that struck engineering equipment on the Ali al-Tahar ridge. In response, the IDF, acting under the instructions of the political echelon, destroyed Hezbollah terror tunnels beneath the Beaufort fortress using 700 tons of explosives.
This marks the first such encounter in over three weeks. On July 7, a fighter from the Oketz unit eliminated a Hezbollah terrorist during a building sweep in Bint Jbeil, an event in which a reservist was seriously wounded last Thursday.
The incident took place in parallel with a pilot program in which the IDF is redeploying from various villages, allowing the Lebanese Army to enter and complete the disarmament of Hezbollah. Two weeks ago, the US State Department announced that, in accordance with the framework agreement between Israel and Lebanon, the project was launched in the villages of Froun, Srifa, and Zawtar Al-Gharbiya.
