Former Mossad Director David Barnea revealed new details regarding Operation "Am Kalavi" and the pager operation in Iran and Lebanon, speaking at the Priority Summit. According to Barnea, the official video published by the Mossad on the morning of the operation, featuring operatives on Iranian soil, was a deliberate decoy strategy designed to protect agents by overwhelming Iranian security services with mass arrests.

On the second day of the escalation, Iranian authorities detained 21,000 people. Barnea noted that amid such massive numbers, even if an operative or two were caught, intelligence services could not separate the wheat from the chaff, ultimately leading to the release of everyone detained whose stories mirrored standard civilian movements. He emphasized that 99.9 percent of Mossad agents in Tehran were never discovered and continue living their lives.

Addressing the pager operation targeting Hezbollah operatives, Barnea described the tense moments ten minutes prior to the execution at 15:30. Sitting in the underground command bunker alongside Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, Defense Minister, the Chief of Staff, and the Head of Military Intelligence, Prime Minister Netanyahu turned to him and asked what happens if it fails. Barnea admitted his heart pounded, realizing it was the first time he considered failure just moments before launch.

Barnea detailed that hundreds of prior tests were conducted on dummies filled with simulated human tissue to minimize collateral damage. He insisted on reducing explosive quantities to prevent harm to the wives and children of Hezbollah operatives. Addressing the outcome, he noted that thousands of operatives were left maimed, serving as a permanent deterrent, while comparing the psychological impact to the atomic bombings of Hiroshima and Nagasaki, leaving leadership uncertain if subsequent strikes would follow. Barnea also acknowledged that prior to Iranian missile attacks in 2024, Israel had been deterred by Tehran's long-range capabilities.
