22-year-old driver arrested for severe drunk driving on Highway 85
The driver stopped in the middle of the lane on a highway near the Rama junction. As part of the Israel Police's efforts to change driving culture and increase safety and deterrence on the roads, it was reported that last week, during a night operation by Northern District officers on Highway 85, teams identified a vehicle near the Rama junction that had stopped while driving in the middle of the lane, even though there were no vehicles in front of it.
The officers stopped to check the reason for the driver's actions, but he had difficulty answering the team's questions. During the check, it was found that his body contained 972 micrograms of alcohol per liter of exhaled air — more than four times the legal limit. In addition, the driver was holding a glass that, according to suspicion, contained an alcoholic beverage during his drive.
The driver, a 22-year-old resident of Salama, was arrested for questioning, and his vehicle was seized and impounded for 30 days. At the conclusion of an investigation by the Galilee District traffic investigation unit, an indictment was filed against him through the Akko traffic prosecution branch at the traffic court in Akko.
The police stated: "Northern District officers will continue to act decisively against road bullying offenses and to bring lawbreakers to justice, for the sake of maintaining public safety."
