Kite infiltrates from Gaza into the Gaza Envelope; Regional Council head: "Crossing a red line"
A kite that infiltrated from the Gaza Strip was located in Moshav Shuva, and according to Sdot Negev Regional Council head Tamir Idan, it did not carry a payload. Idan warned against the return of threats from the Strip and called for a firm response: "Today it is a kite without a payload, tomorrow it could carry explosives."
The head of the Sdot Negev Regional Council, Tamir Idan, responded sharply today, Sunday, to the infiltration of a kite from the Gaza Strip into Moshav Shuva over the weekend. According to Idan, the kite did not carry a payload, but he defined its infiltration into the council's territory as "crossing a red line" and called not to take the incident lightly.
"The incident that occurred over the weekend in Moshav Shuva is a very serious incident. The infiltration of an aerial device from the Gaza Strip into the territory of the council's communities, even when it turns out that it did not carry a payload, is for us a crossing of a red line. We must not get used to it, we must not contain it, and we must not wait for the next incident."
The council head warned that similar means could be used in the future to carry explosives. "Today it is a kite without a payload, tomorrow the same means could carry explosives, and later the threat could arrive via drones or other means," he said. "We have already learned this lesson at too high a price."
"We will not accept a trickle of incidents"
Idan called on the state to respond severely to the incident and clarified that from the council's perspective, there is no room for a policy of containment regarding threats coming from the Strip. "We will not agree to any reality in which the security of the residents of Sdot Negev and the residents of the Gaza Envelope is tested again. We will not accept a trickle of incidents and not a gradual return to the security reality we knew in the past," he said.
According to him, there must be a firm and clear response to this incident. For every attempt to harm the security of the residents of the Gaza Envelope, a price must be exacted that will make it clear to the other side that the State of Israel will not allow a return to a reality of threats from the Gaza Strip. A policy of containment can no longer be on the table.
Later, Idan also addressed the discussions on the future of the Gaza Strip, arguing that no arrangements can be promoted as long as the security of the residents of the Gaza Envelope is not guaranteed. According to him, the conditions for this must include the dismantling of Hamas, the demilitarization of the Strip, and ensuring the security of the region's residents.
"The residents of the Gaza Envelope do not need more promises. They need security certainty," Idan concluded. "This is the duty of the State of Israel, and we will insist on it without compromise."
