Another Yesh Atid MK resigns from the Knesset
MK Ron Katz has announced his resignation, joining several other Yesh Atid members who will not run in the upcoming elections. Amidst the party's declining poll numbers, Katz stated he is taking a break from public life to embark on a new path.
Another Knesset member from Yesh Atid is resigning from the Knesset and will not run in the upcoming elections. ynet has learned that MK Ron Katz will notify the Speaker of the Knesset, Amir Ohana, this morning (Sunday) of his decision to step down.
In doing so, Katz joins other MKs from his party who have resigned or announced their departure, including Boaz Toporovsky, Yaron Levy, and Idan Roll. It is also expected that MK Elazar Stern will leave Yesh Atid to run for the Knesset as part of Gadi Eisenkot's 'Yashar!' party.
It is estimated that the weakening of the party in the polls and the limited number of spots on the list led party members to announce in advance that they would not run. The Yesh Atid faction is the second largest in the Knesset with 24 MKs, but according to recent polls, the party would not receive more than 15 mandates if elections were held today.
"After 15 years of significant public service, the time has come to take a break from public life and open a new chapter. I am ending this chapter with pride in the path taken and the intensive work, and I wish to thank the chairman of Yesh Atid, Yair Lapid, the members of the faction, the staff, the activists, and everyone who accompanied me over the years," said MK Ron Katz.
Regarding his decision to resign before the end of the Knesset recess, Katz stated:
"I submitted my resignation now because I do not think it is right to continue receiving a public salary after I have already made the decision to embark on a new path."
In a letter sent to the Speaker of the Knesset, he also called for action to promote the unity of the people.
