Ex-Maccabi Petah Tikva player disappears suddenly; his wife deleted him from social media

The Zambian winger, who was previously purchased from Maccabi Petah Tikva for about 2 million euros, was supposed to report to the Lecce training complex in mid-July for medical tests and departure for the training camp in Austria, but since then his tracks have disappeared and he has cut off all contact with club officials.

This story is taking up significant space in the Italian media, not only because of the professional aspect but also because of the personal drama accompanying it. Just about a month ago, Banda celebrated his wedding in Zambia and was even documented at the airport in Lusaka accompanied by his new wife.

His wife unfollowed him

However, beyond his physical disappearance and the fact that he is not answering calls from Lecce management or his agents, social media users identified another strange development: his new wife unfollowed him on Instagram and deleted joint photos – which fuels rumors in Italy about a family drama alongside the sports interest.

On the professional level, in Italy it is estimated that behind the disappearance is an astronomical financial offer that the player received from a club in the Gulf (apparently Al-Fateh of Saudi Arabia). Lecce recently exercised an option to extend his contract until 2027 and refused the low offer submitted for him, and in Italy it is estimated that his absence is an attempt to exert pressure on the club to release him.

"Such a thing has not happened to me"

Club president Saverio Sticchi Damiani did not hide his astonishment and deep disappointment with the player's conduct. In a press conference he held, which was widely covered in the Italian media, Damiani said:

"Will Banda return? Honestly, this is a question I also ask myself. Such a situation has not happened to me in my 11 years at the club."

The president made it clear that the club does not intend to let this pass and added firmly: "Whatever his goals and desires may be, he chose the worst way to try and achieve them. The club is examining the matter from a legal perspective and will act severely to protect its contractual rights."
