Ukrainian Missile Strike Reportedly Damages Six Russian Su-34M Jets
Six Russian Su-34M fighter-bombers were reportedly damaged in a Ukrainian Neptune missile strike on the Borisoglebsk military airfield in the Voronezh region.
Six Russian Su-34M fighter-bombers were reportedly damaged during a Ukrainian Neptune missile strike on the Borisoglebsk military airfield in Russia's Voronezh region on the night of October 15.
Airfield Attack Details
The operation was carried out by the Ukrainian Navy using the domestically developed Neptune coastal missile system, according to an official statement. Secondary explosions and a large fire were documented at the airfield following the strike.
Satellite imagery of the damaged airfield shows heavy destruction in the aircraft hangars where the bombers were stationed. The Su-34M is a modernized version of the Russian Su-34 fighter-bomber, capable of carrying guided and unguided aerial bombs as well as various types of missiles.
Strategic Impact
Russian forces regularly use these aircraft to launch guided aerial bombs against Ukrainian military positions and frontline settlements. The Ukrainian Navy stated that hitting six Su-34M aircraft could significantly reduce Russia's tactical aviation capabilities.
The reported damage to the aircraft has not been independently verified.
Meanwhile, diplomatic tensions have emerged between Kyiv and Washington over restrictions on satellite communication and intelligence sharing.
