British Police Dub Suspect's Wild Escape Attempt the 'Windsor Triathlon'
A British man led police on a bizarre pursuit involving a bicycle, a foot chase, and a swim across the River Thames before being apprehended with the help of a police dog.

A routine police pursuit in the United Kingdom took an unusual turn, resembling a multi-sport athletic event rather than a standard arrest. Alan Stiles, 51, led officers through a bizarre chase involving a bicycle, a foot race, and a swim across the River Thames.
The incident began when security cameras captured Stiles stealing a basket full of groceries from a shop in Windsor, located on the historic Windsor Castle estate. After attempting to flee on a bicycle, he crashed into a metal gate following an intervention by a bystander, though he managed to escape the immediate scene.
Police later tracked Stiles down near the River Thames after he allegedly violated his bail conditions. Refusing to surrender, he removed his shirt, jumped into the water, and began swimming toward the opposite bank. Determined officers intercepted a passing boat to continue the pursuit across the river.
After returning to land, Stiles continued his escape on foot. In a creative tactical move, an officer used the suspect's abandoned bicycle, allowing a police dog running alongside to pull him forward like a sled dog. Following an hour-long ordeal, Stiles was finally exhausted and apprehended.
Local law enforcement humorously dubbed the episode the "Great Windsor Triathlon." On October 19, Stiles was handed an 18-month community order after pleading guilty to a string of offenses, including theft, assault, and public indecency.
