IDF Destroys Strategic Hezbollah Underground Complex in Southern Lebanon
The IDF has neutralized a Hezbollah tunnel network in the Beaufort area. Northern Command officers warn that this is only part of a vast underground infrastructure intended for attacks against Israel.
According to data presented yesterday to Defense Minister Israel Katz, the destruction of the underground system in the Beaufort area and other infrastructures on the Ali al-Tahir ridge using hundreds of tons of explosives constitutes a severe and strategic blow to Hezbollah.
Officers in the Northern Command stated:
"For years we knew about the underground system that the Iranians and Hezbollah dug there. We knew they were aiming it not only for observation and intelligence gathering but also for direct fire on communities and outposts, but only when we scanned it thoroughly did we discover how critical it was to Hezbollah's attack plan on Israel."
The officers also noted that there are other infrastructures of this type that the IDF has not yet reached. The assessment is that the Lebanese army is incapable of dealing with them. If the IDF does not receive approval from the political echelon due to American restrictions, Hezbollah will continue to hold these strategic assets.
A security source stated that Aman and the Northern Command have gained a deep understanding of the Iranian-led process in southern Lebanon. The underground hubs were sensitive components of Hezbollah's operational plan to conquer the Galilee and hold territory. Their design created a specific logic for striking Israel, allowing militants to entrench themselves for months while maintaining fire.
Meanwhile, the IDF has increased its presence in southern Lebanon at Hezbollah activity centers despite the ceasefire. In a recent encounter, the Egoz unit identified a Hezbollah force exiting a concealed tunnel complex to collect supplies. During the ensuing clash, an Egoz officer was moderately wounded. This incident will be the subject of the first investigation led by the new division commander, Brigadier General Mani Liberty.
