Trump Announces Agreement for Complete Disarmament of Hamas

US President Donald Trump announced last night (between Thursday and Friday) that the Peace Council had reached an agreement, which he defined as "historic," for the complete disarmament of Hamas and the rest of the armed terrorist organizations in the Gaza Strip. According to him, this is a "huge step toward lasting peace and security."

Trump stated that the agreement is a critical stage toward transferring the management of the Strip to a "new Palestinian government," which will work in close cooperation with the Peace Council. According to him, the arrangement will grant Israel the security it deserves, as the Strip will no longer serve as a base for terrorist attacks. The agreement is expected to be carried out in structured stages, and upon the completion of the disarmament of the terrorist organizations, IDF forces will withdraw from the Strip.

The president also wrote that an international stabilization force will operate alongside a "new Palestinian police force," with the goal of taking responsibility for the security of the Strip for its residents and neighbors. Trump emphasized that within the framework of the agreement, Gaza will pass into the hands of a new Palestinian government. The American president thanked the mediators—Egypt, Qatar, and Turkey—for their efforts.

"The threat that arose from Gaza on October 7 will not be allowed to be rebuilt," he declared.

Trump concluded his announcement by welcoming the development, which he defined as "amazing," and claimed that many believed such an agreement could never be realized.

The president's announcement comes after a political source clarified that Israel is not changing its principled position: full disarmament of Hamas and full demilitarization of the Gaza Strip are a prerequisite for any political or security process, and there will be no Israeli withdrawal from the yellow line before their completion. According to the source, the issue of Gaza was not raised at all in the meeting between Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu and US President Donald Trump. He further emphasized that Israel demands the removal of all weaponry from the Strip and the complete dismantling of Hamas's military capabilities as a basic condition for any future outline.

According to sources in Israel and Gaza, a plan is being examined that includes handing over weaponry and storing it under an agreed-upon mechanism, alongside exposing the locations of the tunnels and international supervision of the implementation of the agreement. In Israel, they estimated that "the direction looks positive," although they emphasized that final agreements have not yet been reached. However, the political source notes that in the "20-point" document, which is at the center of the discussions, there is no sufficient response to Israel's basic demands. Jerusalem has already conveyed its reservations on the matter to international envoy Tony Blair and made it clear that it will not agree to a plan that does not guarantee the full demilitarization of the Strip.
