A major summer deal has been finalized for the transfer of Manchester City midfielder Rodri to Barcelona. According to renowned journalist Fabrizio Romano, "Everything is closed regarding the move of the former Ballon d'Or winner," as Manchester City has given the green light to Barcelona's latest offer.
Shortly after, The Athletic and David Ornstein reported that the Spanish champions will pay Manchester City 76.5 million euros for the midfielder—60 million euros as a base fee, with the remainder in bonuses. The 30-year-old, who had entered the final year of his contract, had been linked with a return to Spain, with Real Madrid also considered a potential suitor.
The 2024 Ballon d'Or winner did not feature in his team's 3-0 loss to Arsenal in the Community Shield earlier today. During his tenure at the Etihad Stadium, Rodri made 196 appearances and scored 23 goals, including the winner in the 2023 Champions League final, which secured the first prestigious European title in the club's history for Pep Guardiola and his squad.
