Deni Avdija and the Portland Trail Blazers continued their impressive start to the season with a 136-129 away victory over the Los Angeles Lakers, improving to 3-0 for the first time since the 2022/23 campaign and handing their opponents their first loss of the year.

Avdija led the winners in scoring alongside Ja Morant, with both players finishing with 23 points. The Israeli forward added 9 assists, 4 rebounds, and a steal, shooting 8-for-15 from the field, including 4-for-7 from beyond the arc. Jrue Holiday contributed 22 points and Damian Lillard added 21, while Luka Doncic's stellar 41-point and 9-assist performance was not enough for the Lakers.

Speaking after the game, Morant praised the team's chemistry and Avdija's impact. "It is just so much fun," Morant said. "We have so many guys who can make plays, which allows me to get easier shots. It is a blessing to play alongside one of the greatest shooters of all time in Lillard and next to a talent like Deni. We just need to keep building our chemistry."

Tactical Role and Defensive Questions

Local media outlet Blazer's Edge published a detailed breakdown of Avdija's performance, praising his offensive brilliance while raising questions about his defensive output. Analysts noted that while Avdija is expected to be a primary defensive anchor alongside Toumani Camara and Donovan Clingan, his defense has appeared inconsistent at times.

However, on the offensive end, Avdija thrived under coach Mike Nori, who deployed him with the second unit. This role allowed Avdija to handle the ball freely and dictate the pace, culminating in a clutch performance in the fourth quarter where he scored 9 of his points and hit crucial three-pointers down the stretch.
