Tokyo Railway Deploys Goats to Clear Weeds and Delight Commuters
Tokyo's JR East has introduced two goats to Yotsuya Station to graze on weeds near the tracks, cutting emissions, replacing chemical herbicides, and delighting commuters.

Tokyo commuters have a new favorite station stop: two goats have been brought to Yotsuya Station to graze on weeds near the tracks as part of an eco-friendly pilot project.
East Japan Railway Company launched the initiative on October 9, introducing one-year-old Nagi and two-year-old Fuka to a steep grassy slope along the Yamanote line corridor. The furry workers are replacing chemical herbicides and motorized mowers, achieving zero carbon emissions while eliminating safety risks for human maintenance workers on dangerous slopes.
The unexpected arrivals have quickly transformed the bustling urban transit hub into a soothing attraction. Commuters stop during their morning rush to snap photos, while students note that watching the goats happily munch away instantly melts away daily stress.
