A two-year-old toddler died on Friday after being trapped inside a locked vehicle in Rahat. Paramedics pronounced him dead at the scene following extensive resuscitation efforts.

A two-year-old toddler died on Friday after reportedly spending an extended period trapped inside a locked vehicle in the southern Israeli city of Rahat. According to Magen David Adom (MDA), family members searched for the child for several hours before finding him unconscious and bringing him indoors.
Emergency medical teams rushed to the scene and attempted resuscitation, but ultimately pronounced the toddler dead. According to sources familiar with the incident, the family began searching for the child in the afternoon until he was discovered unresponsive inside a car's trunk. Preliminary reports indicate the trunk was locked, though authorities are still investigating whether the vehicle was actively in use or abandoned.
MDA medics Zaki Al-Huzail, Helmi Abu Taka, and Atef Abu Siam described the grim scene: "He was pulseless, not breathing, and showed severe signs of heatstroke. We provided medical treatment and performed resuscitation efforts, but his condition was critical and a doctor was forced to pronounce him dead."
According to the B'Telem Safe Kids Israel organization, this marks the third child fatality in 2026 resulting from vehicular entrapment. Data from the past five years (2021-2025) shows that 22 children lost their lives in similar incidents, 53 were injured and survived, and 1,513 were rescued safely unharmed after being locked or forgotten in vehicles.
