Bethlehem Resident Arrested for Ma'ale Adumim Car Theft Ring

A resident of Bethlehem in his 30s, previously released under the Shalit prisoner exchange deal, has been arrested on suspicion of playing a central role in a series of vehicle thefts in Ma'ale Adumim. During a search of his vehicle, police discovered tens of thousands of shekels in cash, suspected to be proceeds from the sale of two stolen cars, which were concealed in the front part of the vehicle. The court extended his remand until September 14.

The arrest was carried out as part of an ongoing investigation by the Ma'ale Adumim police station following a string of car thefts in the city during August. Police suspect that the man played a central role in several incidents. Alongside his arrest, his car was impounded, revealing the hidden cash during the search. Last night, two additional suspects in their 30s, residents of Bethlehem and Beit Jala, were arrested in connection with the same investigation on suspicion of involvement in car thefts in Ma'ale Adumim. The two were interrogated and subsequently detained.

Simultaneously, the Ariel police station opened an investigation following a report of a vehicle theft from a commercial center in the city. Following investigative and intelligence operations, a Palestinian resident of Qibya in his 30s was arrested, with police suspecting his involvement in multiple car thefts in the area. Following his interrogation, he was detained as the investigation continues.

These events join a series of arrests made by the Judea and Samaria (Shai) District over the past week as part of the ongoing crackdown on car thefts and the smuggling of vehicles into the West Bank. According to police, over 20 suspects have been arrested within a week for suspected involvement in thefts, while the theft of six vehicles was simultaneously thwarted.
