Attempt to seize weapon from IDF soldier in Gush Etzion
A week after the terror attack in Samaria that claimed the lives of Binyamin Malet and Yuval Ezra, another weapon seizure attempt occurred in Judea and Samaria. IDF forces opened fire on the terrorist; no casualties were reported among the troops.
An attempt to seize a weapon from an IDF soldier occurred on Friday near the settlement of Meitzad in Gush Etzion. A group of Palestinian terrorists attempted to take a weapon from a soldier, but the force responded quickly and thwarted the attempt. One of the terrorists was wounded by fire from the troops; there were no casualties among the IDF forces.
Last week, Staff Sergeant (res.) Binyamin Malet and Major Yuval Ezra from Herzliya were murdered in a terror attack on the outskirts of the village of Tel. The incident began as a violent confrontation between dozens of Palestinians and a group of Israeli hikers traveling in the area without prior coordination with security forces. During the clash, the Havat Gilad rapid response team was dispatched to the scene, where one of the terrorists managed to steal Malet's weapon and open lethal fire on those present before being eliminated by an arriving IDF commander.
Another incident occurred last Sabbath, when a soldier on leave was attacked while hiking in Susya. According to initial reports, several Palestinians assaulted him and seized his personal weapon. During subsequent searches by the IDF, the soldier's weapon was recovered, and four Palestinians involved in the incident were arrested. One of the suspects turned himself in to the Civil Administration last Monday.
