Tension in the Champions League playoffs: three matches ended in a draw
Everything is open between Fenerbahçe and Lyon (1:1), Dinamo Zagreb and Viking (2:2), and Levski Sofia and AEK Athens (0:0). Everything will be decided next week.
The playoff stage of the Champions League qualifiers began this Tuesday with three matches, all of which ended in draws. Six teams started the evening with hopes of qualifying for the Champions League, and all six remain in contention. Tomorrow, six more teams will try to gain an advantage ahead of the second legs, including Hapoel Be'er Sheva. Next week, all matchups will be decided, and the final list of teams for the prestigious tournament will be set.
The most intriguing meeting of the evening took place in Turkey, where Fenerbahçe hosted Lyon. The French side took the lead when Corentin Tolisso assisted Loïs Openda (40th minute), but the hosts managed to equalize immediately after the break with a goal by Mason Greenwood (47th minute).
Most of the evening's goals were scored in Croatia. Dinamo Zagreb led 2:0 against Norway's Viking thanks to goals from Dion Beljo (6th minute) and Mateo Lisica (18th minute), but they squandered the lead before halftime. Peter Christiansen (26th minute) and Zlatko Tripić (39th minute) brought the Scandinavians back into the game, and they will now look to complete the turnaround on their home turf.
In another match, Levski Sofia and AEK Athens played to a goalless draw, effectively pushing the decision to the second leg.
