Tel Aviv Police Arrest Serial Suspect Linked to 50 Scooter Thefts
Tel Aviv police arrested a 27-year-old local resident suspected of stealing 50 electric scooters. Prosecutors are set to file an indictment.
Police Arrest Serial Scooter Thief in Tel Aviv
Recent weeks saw a surge in complaints regarding stolen electric scooters across Tel Aviv, prompting an intensive investigation by the Ayalon region's South Tel Aviv police station. Following the collection of evidence, investigators identified a lone resident of the city suspected of responsibility for no fewer than 50 scooter thefts.
Arrest and Seized Evidence
Detectives from the South Tel Aviv station arrested the 27-year-old suspect this week. During the arrest, officers seized a stolen credit card and a disk that police allege was used to facilitate the offenses. The suspect was brought in for questioning and subsequently remanded in custody.
"Investigators successfully linked the suspect to 50 separate electric scooter theft incidents," police stated following the interrogation period.
In addition to the vehicle thefts, the investigation covers offenses including burglary, possession of burglary tools, possession of suspected stolen property, violation of a legal order, and trespassing.
Indictment Expected Today
The suspect's detention was extended multiple times by the court while the investigation continued. Police announced that investigators have completed their work and established a solid evidentiary foundation for filing an indictment.
The Tel Aviv District Prosecution Unit is expected to file the formal indictment today. Alongside the charges, prosecutors will request that the court keep the suspect in custody until the conclusion of legal proceedings.
