Syrian Forces Arrest Hezbollah Cell Near Israeli Border
Syrian security forces arrested a Hezbollah cell in southwest Syria near the Israeli border attempting to deploy rocket launchers, amid ongoing efforts to curb the group's activities.
Syrian internal security forces announced on Tuesday that they arrested a terror cell linked to Hezbollah which attempted to deploy rocket launchers in the southwestern part of the country near the border with Israel.
Security Operation in Daraa
According to official reports, the operation was conducted in the Yarmouk Basin area in Daraa by internal security forces alongside the General Intelligence Directorate. The cell consisted of three Hezbollah operatives whose identities were withheld, with only their initials published. Security forces dismantled the launchers and transferred the suspects for further legal proceedings.
Crackdown on Hezbollah Activities
"The operation followed precise surveillance of the cell's attempt to deploy rocket launchers aimed at undermining public security and order."
Since taking power, the regime of Syrian President Ahmed al-Shara has cracked down on activities associated with Hezbollah, which was closely tied to the regime of former president Bashar al-Assad. Hezbollah routinely denies any military presence or activity within neighboring countries.
